Blog Migrations

Optimize and convert your blog by using HubSpot’s integrated tools.

Blog Migration Overview

The HubSpot Blog Migration Service provides a blog template that matches your current blog design, migrates blog content, and includes a defined set of page and system templates that closely resemble your website. You will have a designated Migrations Specialist to manage the blog migration and guide you through the process.

Please note: This is a standardized service, not a tailored design or redesign process. HubSpot will match your blog’s design as closely as possible using standard HubSpot modules.

The HubSpot Migrations Team will migrate your blog content and design onto the HubSpot platform in addition to a standard set of templates, global groups, and coded files to match your external website.

Below are some examples of content types and features that HubSpot can’t migrate:

  • Blog comments will not be transferred from the original blog to your HubSpot blog. The HubSpot blog comments module will be available for use moving forward.
  • Mega menus, image based menus, or menus with non-linked content (descriptions or paragraph content) will become simple dropdown menus.
  • Flash websites, Flash navigation, and Flash with embedded links/multiple files associated. Live chat (though some embeddable JS services can be OK).
  • Standard Twitter and Facebook feeds will be included. 3rd party custom social sharing widgets are not included. Login fields are not included.
  • Dynamic shopping carts are not included. The shopping cart icon will be included, but the count of items in the cart will not. Popup forms and banner notifications are not included.
  • 3rd party plugins are not included, including Disqus or Facebook commenting, author plugins, and custom social media feeds.

Below are some examples of content types and features that may change as a result of migrating your blog into HubSpot:

  • A HubSpot blog uses one template, therefore all blog posts will need to have one consistent layout. Any blog posts that don’t have a consistent layout will be changed to have a consistent layout to that of other posts on the blog.
  • Search functionality will be replaced with the HubSpot search module.
  • HubSpot uses tags to categorize posts. If your current blog uses both tags and categories, both of these will be combined into tags in HubSpot.
  • Precise spacing, non-standard fonts, and column widths may change.
  • Blog layouts and functionality will be matched as close as possible within the capabilities of the Hubspot Blog tools. Some layout changes may occur.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you customize a Marketplace template with our company’s branding?

No. If you wish to download a Marketplace template and customize it to fit your branding, please reach out to the Marketplace Provider for the template to discuss customizing the theme.

Will a blog migration include all of the alternative languages my blog is available in?

If the blogs are all hosted on the same top-level domain, then we will migrate all blogs in one migration. If they are hosted in separate top-level domains, each blog would require a separate migration.

Do I need to submit a live URL for the URL to migrate?

Yes. During a blog migration, we work to bring over your website as closely as possible which involves seeing what code your current site is using. Therefore we need a live URL to perform a migration and can’t do a migration based off of an image or PSD file.

Can I submit a password protected blog?

Yes. If you want to submit a password protected blog, please just note a username and password that we can use to access the page for the migration.

How long will my blog migration take once it is started?

A blog migration typically takes 2-3 weeks once it is started.

How do I report a design issue once my blog migration is completed?

During a blog migration you will have a Migrations Specialist walk you through the entire process. Any design issues with the blog migration can be reported directly to your HubSpot Migrations Specialist once the blog is completed.

Is there a limit to how many blog posts I can have migrated?

Yes, if the website contains more than 1000 pages we will not migrate it.

Which edition of CMS Hub do I need to use HubSpot’s professional migration services?

Template setup, blog migration, and website migrations are available for CMS Hub Professional and CMS Hub Enterprise customers. CMS Hub Starter customers can leverage HubSpot’s tools to import their blog content or website structure into HubSpot.
